With a dedicated point-based and organized immigration system in place for skilled migration applicants, today, Australia is the first choice of the immigrants for immigration and permanent residency.
Let’s find out the key pathways for Skilled Migration to Australia.
Skilled Migration Program of Australia
Australia’s skilled migration program, i.e. General Skilled Migration (GSM) program, aims to invite skilled and talented individuals from overseas. However, all such skilled immigrants must-have skills and experience to work in the high demand occupations across various states and territories in Australia.
To apply for a skilled migration visa in Australia, interested applicants need to submit their EOI (Expression of Interest) online in the SkillSelect System. In this system, the applicants get a point score based on their age, education, work experience, English language skills, etc.
The Department of Home Affairs, Australia open invitation round every month to invite the top-scoring candidates to apply for GSM category visas in Australia. There are three skilled migration visas under the General Skilled Migration Program of Australia. Lets’ find out.
Australia Skilled Migration Pathways
If you are an aspirant of Skilled migration in Australia, you can apply in any of the three-point tested visa categories of Australia, i.e.
-
Subclass 189 Visa: The Skilled Independent Visa Subclass 189 is an independent visa, which means you don’t need any job offer, state or family sponsorship from Australia to apply for this visa.
- Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa : On 16th November 2019, the 489 Visa (Skilled Regional) is replaced by the new Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa. This new Visa allows skilled workers to move to Australia and work for an approved employer for a maximum five years.
-
Subclass 190 visa: The Skilled Nominated Visa Subclass 190 is the state nominated visa, which means you need to have a nomination from an Australian state or territory government agency to apply for this visa.
(*Subclass 489 visa will be replaced by a new visa category, i.e. Subclass 491 visa from November 2019. EOI applications for the subclass 489 visa will close on 10 September 2019.)
All the above visa category falls under the General Skilled Migration program, which is a point-based immigration program as described above.
Process to apply Skilled Migration in Australia
First of all, check whether your skills and experience match with any of the occupations in the relevant skilled occupation list of Australia. Obtain the required documents to submit EOI (Expression of Interest), i.e.
- IELTS test for English language proficiency (Minimum IELTS Band score 6)
- Skill Assessment report from an approved assessing authority.
Obtain the State nomination first, if applying for the state nomination visa, i.e. Subclass 190 or 489 visa. Once documents are obtained, submit EOI in the SkillSelect system and score a minimum of 65 points based on key selection factors i.e. age, English skills, experience, education, etc.
Now, the DHA will open monthly invitation rounds (known as SkillSelect Invitation Round) to select the top-ranking profiles from the system and invite them to apply for a relevant GSM category visa.
If you have received the invite from DHA, you need to submit a completed application along with the required documents to apply for an Australian Permanent Residency visa.
During the application process, you may be asked for the documents, i.e. Medical certificate, PCC, etc. You may also be asked to come for an interview with the immigration office, depending upon your application status.
Once, all verifications are done and everything found truthful and correct about your candidature, you will get approval for Australian skilled migration visa from the immigration authority of Australia.
