Australia has designed point based system to select the overseas skilled people for its three main skilled visa Categories under General Skilled Migration (GSM) program, i.e. Subclass 189 (Permanent Visa), Subclass 190 (State nominated Permanent visa) and Subclass 491–Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa..
This Australia Immigration point system 2022 is based on certain selection factors, i.e. age, education, work experience, English proficiency, etc.
Please note, visa subclass 489 is now replaced by subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa .
This new visa subclass 491 has a better point test and comes with two streams - sponsorship by a family member living in any designated regional area State or Territory sponsored stream.
All the applicants applying under this visa subclass 491 must age 45 years or below while applying, must have a positive skills assessment and meet the minimum points requirements.
This visa subclass 491 comes with a five years validity period and can be converted into permanent residency visa after 3 years.
To become eligible to apply for any of the above-mentioned GSM Visa Categories, an applicant needs to score a minimum of 65 points out of 100, based on the given selection factors in the online SkillSelect System of Australia.
The top scoring profiles usually get the ITA (Invitation to Apply) for Australia PR from the Australia’s immigration department. Find below the points being allocated by the Australian immigration Department for each profile factor of an applicant.
Please note, a revised points system has been introduced and is in effect since 16th November 2019. This changes has been implemented so that all the applicants can contribute towards economic development.
Additional points are now awarded for those applicants who have skilled spouse or de-facto partners, whose spouse or de-facto partners have ‘competent English
Those who are skilled in STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) occupations, and those who have been sponsored by a family member who live in Australia as permanent resident or citizen or nominated by state or territory government.
