Recently, the Australian Department of Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business has released its much anticipated Traffic Light Bulletin. The Department s key role is to perform regular reviews of Australian Skilled Migration Occupation Lists, including, Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), Regional Occupation List (ROL) and the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). All the occupations mentioned in the lists are used for skilled migration, so that Australia can meet its short, medium and long term labor and economic development needs.

The purpose of this Traffic Light Bulletin is to flag all those occupations which are more likely to be removed, added or replaced from the current occupations lists and will be finalized for the updated skilled occupation lists that are slated to be introduced in March 2020.

The occupation lists included here are of use for all the Australian employers who wish to sponsor foreign workers in Australia as well as for prospective immigrants who wish to move to Australia.

• Red Occupations: Flagged to be removed from the list
• Orange Occupations: Flagged to be moved between lists
• Green Occupations: Flagged to be added to the lists

Please note, right now all the changes have been proposed and will be formalized by March 2020.

The following red occupations are expected to be removed from all the Skilled Migration occupation lists:

Out of all the above mentioned occupations, a few were quite popular amongst prospective migrants and were in demand as well in Australia, including, Hairdresser, Community Worker and Massage Therapist.

All the listed Orange occupations are flagged to move between the STSOL, MLTSSL and ROL

Finally have a look at a list of Green Occupations

The following occupations are flagged to be added to the STSOL. The main occupations that failed to make an progress in any of the lists for a while are Aged or Disabled Carer, Personal Care Assistant and Nursing Support Worker.

Changes to Salary Caveats

The Department is planning to implement per annum salary caveat of AU $65,000 for Pastry Cooks, Fitter and Turners and Bakers. Sportspersons would need minimum AU$ 120,000 salary per annum.

Newly introduced Occupations

The Department has also listed down new occupations that are not present in the current ANZSCO system. The below listed occupations have been determined to fit into the following definitions by ABS:
