Australia to extend post-study work rights for Foreign Students

With effect from July 1, 2023, Australian Government is extending the post-study work rights of the international students in Australia. This measure will give worthy International higher education graduates with selected qualifications an extra 2 years on their Temporary Graduate visa (Subclass 485).

Post-study work rights to be extended from 1st July

The Post-study work rights of the International students in Australia will now be extended up to 2 additional years. Here are key points about this latest update.

From 1st July, International higher education graduates with eligible qualifications will get extra 2 years of post-study work rights.

Post-study work rights for selected degrees in areas of proved/certified skills shortages will be increased from:

  • Two years to four years for select Bachelor’s degrees.
  • Three years to five years for select Master’s degrees.
  • Four years to six years for all Doctoral qualifications (PhDs)

A thorough list mapped to CRICOS course codes will bereleased by the DOE before implementation on 1 July 2023. The students will need to refer to the comprehensive list, when published, to check the eligibility for their particular course at their provider. 

The extension is additional to the existing extra 1 to 2 years of work rights for eligible International students who study, live and work in regional parts..

Part -time working hour limit increased

Australian government has also increased the part -time working hour limit for the international students from 40 hours per fortnight to 48 hoursper fortnight. It will be applicable from 1 July 2023.
