Australia Streamlined Temporary Visa Requirements

The government of Australia is streamlining its temporary visa requirements related to medical examination. The Australian temporary visa applicants no longer need to undergo chest x-rays and medical examinations. Additionally, applicants no longer need to meet health requirements based on their previous residence, nationality, and length of stay.

Following Australian temporary visa applicants must undergo relevant medical examinations and chest x-rays:

  • Who have applied for any medical treatment, provisional visa or temporary protection
  • Who are expecting to incur medical charges or require medical treatment
  • Who intend to work  or study to be a dentist, doctor, paramedic or nurse 
  • Who will enter any disability or aged care facility or hospital
  • Who is pregnant and intends to have a baby anywhere in Australia
  • Who will train or work at any childcare centre in Australia
  • Who is over 75 years  and applying for Australian visitor visa
  • Who have had previous contact with tuberculosis
  • Who received a request from the Department

Who doesn t require medical examination?

All the other temporary visa applicants apart from the above-mentioned ones no longer need to undertake any medical examination and chest x-ray for meeting health requirement.

This updated will be applicable to all eligible applications under temporary visa category as well as new applications in Australia. The new arrangements will be reviewed by the government in early 2023.

Please note that in case you have an existing medical appointment, you can cancel the appointment and a refund will be provided (if applicable). While in case you need to undergo examination, the DHA will update your ImmiAccount accordingly and you should review the above mentioned criteria carefully before booking your appointment with Bupa.
