Australia Latest SkillSelect Invitation Round - 9th May 2019
On 9th May 2019, Australia held its SkillSelect invitation round for General Skilled Migration visa subclasses. Generally, on the 11th day of every month, Australia releases the figures, but this time DHA has launched 2 days ahead of the usual time. In these monthly rounds, the Department of Home Affairs Australia invites applicants from Subclass 189 visa and Subclass 489 visa categories.
Total number of Invitations Issued
In the latest draw, the DHA has issued only 100 ITAs to applicants under Skilled Independent Subclass 189 visa with a minimum cutoff score of 80 points.
While, for a Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa Subclass 489, only 10 ITAs have been issued with a minimum cutoff score of 85 points.
For the last two draws, the total number of invitations issued has majorly dropped under both visa categories. The experts are forecasting better results for the new financial year.
Pro-rata occupations system
Every month, Australia immigration conducts a draw which selects a limited number of Expression of Interest applications with the highest scores and sends them PR invitations. There is a possibility that a few of the skills (ANZSCO job codes under the same category) have a number of EOIs than the job categories, which clearly means that sometimes there is more demand for an occupation than the available places.

At this point, we do not see any change in the June SkillSelect session, so it is advisable to wait till the quotas reopen on 1st July 2019.
